I didn’t know how I felt. I didn’t know what to expect. I questioned my self of my true Javaneseness. Am I Javanese enough? Well, I think that is a question young generations of Jogja should ask themselves. Wait and see what the final judges said…

Can you tell we were nervous?

We were the first pair to enter the stage!

Funny, how I’ve never imagined myself actually participating in a pageant. This part of the Karantina has changed my views. I enjoyed the whole process of going to the salon, not just to have my hair cut. Myself being not too keen on dressing up at all times or being an expert on make-up, I truely enjoyed the sensation of being beautiful and being aware of our beauty. For those girls who are too busy to care about beautifying their body or having relaxed massages, you should try going to the salon! Have yourself a facial or a creambath and feel the difference!

Shopping at Beringharjo Market

My ‘dimas’ and I went shopping for matching outfits to wear for our Karantina. We slid our way through the dense Beringharjo market hoping to find matching batik outfits or sarimbit in Javanese. Beringharjo is one of Jogja’s oldest traditional markets. It’s quite adventurous to browse through all the choices and bargaining for the right price. My ‘dimas’ was good at that. He was really good with Javanese language so the sellers easily believed we were Jogja residents and not domestic tourists, thus they charged us a cheaper price. I on the other hand, give up too easily and avoid getting into price debate.
